Hazardous Materials Training

 

Dynamic Rescue Systems has a wide range of hazmat services available.  Whether your workplace has hazardous industrial settings, emergency response needs, or general awareness requirements, DRS will meet you hazmat needs.  DRS hazmat can equip your company with on site hazard assessment, training, emergency response service, as well as customized services that meet the current needs of your workplace.  All of our instructors / team members at DRS are all fully certified, active and progressive in their hazmat diciplines.  For more details on each of the services that we provide please follow the links to the right.

 

Hazardous Materials Awareness (8 hours - 1 day)


This hazmat awareness level course provides students with the skills to recognize and manage the beginning stages of any emergency hazmat incident that they could encounter in the course of their normal duties.  The primary focus of this course is on recognition, identification, protection, and notification.
This course meets or exceeds:
    •    NFPA 472 (CH 4) Hazmat Operations
    •    Criteria for NFPA 1001 Firefighter I & II – Hazmat Awareness
    •    Needs of fire service or industry for Hazmat Awareness level actions
Successful completion of this course gives students NFPA 472 Hazmat Awareness Certification

Operations (Core) (24 hours – 3 days)


This hazardous materials operations level course provides a systematic approach for responders to a hazardous materials incident for the purpose of supporting or implementing protective actions.  Students will have the skills and knowledge to conduct scene safety procedures, public protective actions, exposure protection, and defensive product control methods.  The overall incident management elements of this course are effective in both fire department and industrial settings.
This course meets or exceeds:
    •    NFPA 472 (CH 5, CH 6.2(PPE), CH 6.6 (Product Control)
    •    Criteria for NFPA 1001 Firefighter I & II - Hazmat Operations
    •    The needs of fire service or industry for Hazmat Operations level       response
This course is well suited to:
    •    A fire service recruit training program
    •    A Fire Dept. who is working towards a module based completion of       NFPA 1001.
    •    Industry employees that are expected to respond and if necessary confine product.

Successful completion of this course gives students NFPA 472 Hazmat Operations Certification

Operations (plus) (32 hours – 4 days)


This hazmat operations level course provides all of the same skills and knowledge as the Operations Core course, plus a large number of mission specific competencies.  Mission specific competencies are ones that allows operations level responders to take more specific action and increase the amount of support they can provide to hazardous materials technicians.  The overall incident management elements of this course are effective in both fire department and industrial settings.  
The following Mission Specific Competencies included in this course are Personal Protective Equipment, Technical Decontamination, Mass Decontamination, Product Control and Air Monitoring & Sampling.
The following Mission Specific Competencies have been left out of Ops plus due to infrequent requests but can be implemented in to a custom course to meet your needs: Evidence Preservation, Victim rescue and recovery and Illicit Labs.
This course meets or exceeds:
    •    NFPA 472 (CH 5 & 6)
    •    Exceeds criteria for NFPA 1001 Firefighter I & II – Hazmat operations
This course is well suited to:
    •    A fire service that is looking to implement or support a local response team with a defensive (operations) posture.
    •    Industry employees that are expected to respond and confine product.

Successful completion of this course gives students NFPA 472 Hazmat Operations plus designated Mission Specific Competency Certification

 

Technician (56 hours – 7 days)


This Hazmat Technician course is designed to provide the end user with the knowledge and understanding of how to systematically work through a hazardous materials emergency. The hazmat technician will learn to make hazard specific decisions in both defensive and offensive situations. With this hazmat course being delivered over a 7 day period, the technician will benefit from more time spent mitigating an incident through strong core skills and practical evolutions.
This course meets or exceeds:
    •    NFPA 472 (CH 7)
    •    Needs of fire service or industry in Technician level response

This course is well suited to:
    •    Industry employees that are expected to respond and contain product.
    •    A fire service looking to implement a Hazmat response team that will operate in an offensive (technician) posture.

Successful completion of this course gives students NFPA 472 Hazmat Technician Certification

WHMIS (3 hours – 1 day)


The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is Canada's national hazard communication standard. The key elements of the system are cautionary labelling of containers of WHMIS "controlled products", the provision of material safety data sheets (MSDSs) and worker education and training programs.
This course is designed for the worker who works with or comes in close proximity to hazardous materials.

Transportation of Dangerous Goods – TDG (4 hours – 1 day)


This Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) training course is designed for persons who must be certified as consignors, carriers (drivers) and handlers. Meets all regulatory requirements set by the Transportation of Dangerous goods Act.
