Alberto Burrero has over 20 years of experience within the Fire & Technical Rescue Services. He is currently a Professional Firefighter assigned to Vancouver’s Heavy Urban Search & Rescue Company with the City of Vancouver Fire & Rescue Services and he is also an adjunct Instructor with the Urban Search & Rescue program in the United States. He has been a Level 2/Rescue Technician Instructor for over 15 years. In 1989 he began his career in Mine Rescue with B.H.P Utah Mines in Port Hardy, B.C. Over the next few years, Alberto received specialized training in a variety of Technical Rescue disciplines including: Fall Protection, Technical Rope Rescue, Confined Space Rescue, Trench Rescue, Structural Collapse Rescue, Mine Rescue, Vehicle Extrication, Machinery Extrication, Surface/Flood Management Rescue, Swiftwater Rescue, Boat/ARV Rescue and Helicopter Rescue. He is currently an active instructor in all of these training programs. In 1993, Alberto was selected to head the Lynn Canyon Ranger Program. His mandate was to develop, hire, train and supervise the Ranger Rescue Program. In 1996, along with four other partners, Alberto wrote and delivered the State Fire Marshall’s Helicopter Rescue Program for the State of California. In 1999, Alberto was hired by the Fire Academy in B.C. and was given the task of developing and delivering their Technical Rescue Programs. Since 2000, he has written three editions of Technical Rope Rescue manuals for the Special Operations Section. In 2004, Alberto co-authored “Engineering Practical Rope Rescue Systems”, a book on Specialized Technical Rope Rescue Operations. In January of 2005, he was appointed to the N.F.P.A. 1670 Committee for “Standards on Operations & Training for Technical Search & Rescue Incidents”. Alberto has trained various agencies across North America including: Fire Departments, Military personnel, Industry and the Private Sector. He currently continues to instruct for various agencies in Canada & the United States including: Vancouver Fire & Rescue Services, Paramedic Academy, B.C.I.T., and U.S. Fire Departments.
